It is no secret about our love of street art. Part of that love is getting to know the artist behind the magnificent pieces of art they share with the world. Today in our series of interviews with artists, we talk to street artist Kosmik One. Although based in Stuttgart, Germany, Kosmik One’s stunning unique art can be found all over the globe. We are very excited that he agreed to speak to us and share some of his favorite works of art.
Q. How did you get into street art?
It all started with Graffiti- Writing. My cousin was already painting and showed me pieces, tags and bombings in his neighborhood. For the first time I saw big, colorful and stylish letters placed under bridges and on trains. I was so amazed by all the countless names I saw in the city and it didn’t take much time till I grabbed some spray cans to put my own tags and pieces on the wall. I was around 15 at that time and continued painting my name in the streets. My passion for painting characters arose in the last few years.
Q. Why is street art important?
It up values the area you are living in. Most of the people like seeing somebody who puts some colors on the wall with good skills behind it. In my experience it is honored a lot. People sense that I am investing time and creativity into something I love. Therefore it is a global thing: Artists from all around the world are connecting with each other and it has become quite normal to visit other countries and continents.
Q. What is your favorite piece & why? (either yours or someone else’s). If you know the meaning of the piece, please explain.
To me street art is all about aesthetics and originality. There is nothing more that has to be added. It gives people joy and that’s it. A good tag is a good tag and has to be honored, at the same time a big mural could look totally boring to me. I don’t have a favorite piece or artist. But what I can truly say is that I love variety in styles. An Artist that is inventing himself again and again is the thing I value the most.
Q. Who is your favorite street artist & why?
Q. Where is your favorite place in the world for street art ? Also where would you like to create art next?
There is not really a favorite place for me, cause I want to leave a mural wherever I am. But at the moment I feel very much drawn to South East of Asia, especially Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The local population is very much open to get their houses painted as I experienced in Thailand recently. But in the end I’ m open for every new spot I can visit and paint.
